"Nature's Conspiracy 1805"
32 " x 48"         Oil          Sold

After discovering the Great Falls of the Missouri, Lewis went on to discover 4 more waterfalls.  Near where the Sun River meets the Missouri,  he shot a buffalo for dinner, and while waiting for it to go down, he became alarmed that he was about to have an encounter with a grizzly bear, and did not have time to reload his gun.He ran into the Missouri,  thinking he could spear it with his espontoon.  The grizzly then ran off.
Later that day he was stalked by an animal that is thought to be a wolverine.  He shot at it, and it scurried into it's burrow.
Further down the Sun River, he was charged by 3 buffalo bulls, but after  he yelled at them and shook his gun & espontoon, they stopped, snorted, and left him be.
The next morning, he woke up and there was a rattle snake at the base of a tree not far from him.  He felt he was in a dream, and that mother nature decided to have fun at his expense!

in Dugout Canoes"
24" x 30"     Oil     Sold

The dugout canoes, which they  hollowed out  from cottonwood trees, provided the Corps of Discovery a form of transportation as they navigated the Missouri River  through what we now call the Wolf Creek Canyon  in Montana.
This painting was commissioned by a client that happens to live on this piece of  riverfront property and wanted to visualize the Corps of Discovery  traveling past his yard, as they did in 1805.
